Problem
ALM Translations keeps its finger on the pulse of both technological advances and changes in global language requirements for their clients. But, they knew that their previous approach to dubbing video content was too archaic with modern AI tools in the market.
ALM had previously struggled with the high cost and time-consuming nature of traditional dubbing methods, which limited accessibility and engagement for global audiences.
They would traditionally go to a studio, have multiple people record in various languages, and then do post-production work to edit and assemble the content. This process was very time-consuming and expensive, as it involved renting studio space, hiring local voiceover artists, and paying for their travel and time.
The high cost and lengthy turnaround time made it prohibitive for many clients, especially those with global workforces who needed content in multiple languages. This limited the accessibility and engagement of the video content for employees who did not speak the primary language.
“How it used to be done around 20 years ago was always having to go to a studio, this will take a very long time, be very expensive as well, because you have to rent the studio, you have to get a voiceover artist who's local, pay their travel costs, and their time as well. So it's not, you know, low cost in any way…”
Solution
By exploring AI-powered solutions, they found a more efficient and cost-effective way to translate and dub video content into multiple languages.
They started looking into AI-powered solutions, including lip-syncing and voiceover technologies, to address the cost and efficiency challenges. They evaluated various options, and open-source technologies, but found them to be lacking in quality and consistency. When they discovered LipDub AI, they recognized the potential and decided to explore it further.
They reached out to some of their existing clients, particularly those with global operations and internal communication needs, and pitched the new solution. The clients were very receptive, and ALM was able to provide sample videos that demonstrated the quality and seamlessness of the lip-synced translations.
“We had an initiative within ALM, to start looking into AI technologies. And we have a specific meeting every week to talk about AI, what's coming out? Well, how can we leverage this? How can we pass on some cost benefits to our clients?“
“...when MARZ reached out with their LipDub AI solution, we saw the difference straightaway. And the fact that they have some pedigree in the industry lent them some initial credibility. So we followed up on the lead. And sure enough, the first results were really impressive.”
Results
The collaboration with LipDub AI and initial client testing showed promising results, with clients expressing excitement about the quality and seamlessness of the lip-synced translations.
The new solution not only provides significant cost savings and improved accessibility for global workforces, but also opens up potential applications beyond internal communications.
ALM was quickly able to assess and discover ROI by leveraging cost comparisons between the new solution and the traditional approach, demonstrating significant savings for clients. They were able to develop a tiered pricing structure to accommodate different service levels, from a raw output to a fully quality-assured version.
ALM is already receiving feedback from clients who have adopted the new solution. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with clients expressing their excitement at being able to deliver content in multiple languages in a cost-effective and seamless manner.
Now, the team at ALM is continuing to refine their processes and explore additional use cases for the technology, such as integrating it with platforms like Loom for personalized video messaging. They are also working on building out their marketing and positioning to target specific industries and use cases, such as global HR and internal communications.
“So we're talking about CEOs being able to talk to their workforce in their own language. We were laughing today though, that people appearing in these videos could easily be approached by their multilingual staff who think they genuinely speak Japanese for example , because it's so seamless!”
“It's looking really good. Carmen's tone of voice is the same as her English tone of voice. So, it just sounds like she's just switched languages.”
